With the Chilterns on our doorstep there is so much to explore! For cyclists there are six one day, mapped rides from here or you can stop off with us on the 173 mile Chilterns cycleway or the shorter two day Henley-Risborough loop.
Walking includes Coombe Hill and Whiteleaf Hill for fabulous views. The famous Ridgeway passes by us. Please let us know if you would like a dinner, B&B package as a refuel and rest stop package if you are walking the whole route. The Phoenix trail offers a flat and family friendly cycle and walking trail from Princes Risborough to Thame. And to see the Chilterns in a different way why not climb aboard a chauffeured Boom trike for one of Chiltern Trike Tours wonderful adventures.
Chiltern Cycle Hire will deliver pre booked bikes to us or meet you at Princes Risborough Station if travelling by train.
You are spoilt for choice from the French inspired Waddesdon Manor to Hughenden Manor, West Wycombe Park and Hellfire caves, Stowe, Clivedon and Greys Court. The Cotswolds are nearer than you think and Blenheim Palace is more than worth the short drive. Why not book a short stay to visit a few of these wonderful houses and grounds and immerse yourself in the history and grandeur of the area. Check individual sites for the plethora of events and activities that are put on.
We have wonderful farm and brewery shops on our doorstep and there are lovely market towns such as Thame, Wendover and our own Princes Risborough boasting regular weekly markets and independent shops.
For a bigger fix the world famous Bicester Village offers designer outlet shopping and is a short drive or train journey away. Oxford offers the chance to sight see and shop, this ancient University City, with its stunning architecture, shops and restaurants is definitely worth a visit. Catch the train from Princes Risborough directly into the centre of Oxford to avoid the hassle of parking.
While it feels like we are a million miles away, London is actually only 40 minutes by train direct, so if you are travelling from further afield make Chadwell Hill Farm your base to explore both country and city life.
The Chilterns unsurprisingly has a great choice of places to eat out. Here are some of our favourites, we do advise booking in advance.
The Harrow at Bishopstone and The Thatch in Thame get our vote for gastro pub food.
For a fine dining pub we highly recommend the excellent food and service at The Chequers in Weston Turville
Our go to special occasion local is a Belgium gem, La Chouette, hidden away in Dinton, where the owner Frederic will delight you with both his food and wit, but please don’t tell everyone this place is our little secret!
Dukes in Princes Risborough is a great wine bar serving sharing platters and pizza for a lighter meal and some great wine.
Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saison, the on trend Mash Inn at Radnage and The Sir Charles Napier all offer foody heaven in their own unique ways and are worth the drive.
For families: we love walking or cycling to Orchard View Farm for their amazing wood fired Pizzas or Sunday roast and stocking up on provisions and gifts while we are there. And in Princes Risborough the family run Villa Bianca has a great menu to suit every one.
Hot Chocolate has to have a mention, especially after an autumn day exploring the Chilterns and Rumseys in Thame and Wendover we think do the best!
Whatever your tipple! Featured in The Independent as one of “Britains Best Beer Destinations for A Happy Getaway” we have a plethora of award winning breweries in the Chilterns, including Chiltern Brewery just down the road who if you pre order will deliver beer to us ready and waiting for your arrival, XT and Vale Brewery in the picturesque village of Brill. If you are considering a brewery getaway why not let us organise a weekend of beer and curry for you or book a brewery tour with Chiltern Trike Tours.
In fact Chiltern Trike Tours are a perfect Chauffered Driven way to experience any taste of the Chilterns tour. For wine tasting we highly recommend No 2 Pound Street in Wendover who we work with a lot and also a tour and tasting of the lovely Daws Hill Vineyard.
If gin is your tipple let us put together an itinerary of local distilleries for you to visit or we can invite Caroline from Chasers Box Bar to come and share her expertise,( and gin!), with a local gin tasting and no need to drive. Perfect for a group getaway activity.
We absolutely love sharing our little farm with families, whether it’s seeing happy children riding the rocking horse in the breakfast room, taking them to pick up the hens eggs or watching them run free in The Buttercup Glamping Field, Chadwell Hill Farm seems to offer a little magic for them all.
And there is lots to do in the area too. Wendover Woods offers hours of entertainment with trails and play areas, Go Ape and a Gruffalo Trail.
The Chinnor Steam Railway and The Buckinghamshire Railway Centre offered so many happy days for our boys growing up. Well worth checking their websites for what is on.
In Great Missendon, the heart of Roald Dahl country, you will find the wonderful Roald Dahl Museum and story centre bringing the man and his stories to life. And bookworms and film buffs alike can have a wizardly time at walking in the footsteps of Harry Potter at Warner Brothers Studio Tour.
Getting up close with animals is part of coming to the country, we recommend Odds Farm near High Wycombe, The Bucks Goat Centre just down the road and The Green Dragon Eco Farm in Hogshaw.
If it’s a rainy day the Natural History Museum in Tring will amaze with its collection and activities for all ages.
Horse riding can be enjoyed at Widmer Equestrian, something for all the family, but please book in advance to avoid disappointment.
